JD Kraaikamp: The idea that the sign of the cross only works for those who truly believe actually has biblical precedent. In the book of The Acts of the Apostles, seven sons of Sceva (a Jewish priest) tried to cast out demons in the names of Christ and Paul. One demon replied "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" (Acts 19:15) According to the story, they barely escaped with their lives.
